Winter Individual Finals 2009

A successful day at Redbridge saw the superhuman effort of Andrew Knights from The Essex winning all four of his finals. Firstly in his singles over 35 he retained his title by beating Neil Taylor from Gidea Park 6-2, 7-6. Then in the mixed doubles over 35 with Sarah Walden he beat Roger Peters of Westcliff Lawn and Karen Poole of Westcliff Hard 6-3, 6-3. Next up was the mens doubles over 35 when he played with Jon Lee of Thorpe Bay to beat James Weatherup and Keith Gilbert of David Lloyd Gidea Park 6-2, 7-5. The last match for him, and of the day, was the mens open doubles, and playing with Pierre Smith, also of The Essex, he beat Darren Rogers and Dean Graham of David Lloyd Basildon 7-6, 3-6, 10-4.

The Essex girls' team travelled to Division 1 of the county championships as defending champions and became valiant runners-up, showing some true fighting spirit.
Going into the last day, all four teams could go down and Essex and Sussex were potential champions.
